Soul of the Text - Jewish Great Books course
Based on Soul of the Text: An Anthology of Jewish Literature, this guided interactive class for adults will be led by master teacher Esther Cohen Hexter. As an educator and teacher, Hexter has specialized in learning with adults for 30 years. Her exciting and engaging style will help bring alive some of the classics of Jewish literature. Meeting on October 11, October 25, and November 8, from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m., students will be asked to purchase the text (either from the Great Books Foundation www.greatbooks.org or through any on line used book service you like), but there will be no other prerequisites. Registration is requested - please call the Temple (330-656-1800) or e-mail Rabbi Stone.
Child Rearing Discussion Group
An exciting, provocative discussion group returns beginning Sunday, September 30, at 10:30-11:45, for five weeks. The discussions are based on psychologist Wendy Mogel's popular child-rearing book, Blessings of a Skinned Knee, available on line or locally. Co-facilitators are: Dr. Ted Chandler, psychologist, parent, and child development professor, and Kim Strausser, school psychologist and parent. Within a Jewish framework, the book examines a new way to look at key parenting issues: respect for adults, chores, meal-time battles, coping with frustration, expectations, scheduling, over-indulgence, and more. Comments from previous participants: "fabulous, enjoyable, loved the book, great discussions, terrific, valuable perspective..." |
